Breakup Weekend 2009
Our Breakup weekend this year was held at Janowen Hills 4×4 Park on the western side of Cunninghams Gap.
Friday saw a few early arrivals and the set up of the common area and a short drive to fill in the day.
Steve cooked up an awesome Pork Roast in the campfire and was happy to share the left overs.
The sun rose early on Saturday morning and the smell of cooking bacon and eggs filled the air with a few more arriving early to get the most of the day and enjoy a drive before lunch.
After lunch those who where set up and ready for some action headed for the hills via the “Playground” for more fun in the hills.
A few of the experienced headed up the creek track and then up the water fall where everyone made it except for David who needed winching (Maybe some bigger tires soon hey Dave!!) but an effort well done by all.
Junior strutted his stuff in his LWB Suzuki and made everything look easy with his front and rear lockers and transfer case reduction gears.
Jason and Matty know the park very well and as always where just into everything the hard way and made a meal of it.
Steve’s new reduction gears in his Patrol Wagon certainly made crawling a breeze demonstrating how he can go virtually everywhere without Air Lockers but without reductions gears they would be vital.
Steve Tait demonstrated how not to drive his Prado down a rocky decent lifting a rear wheel nearly 1 metre off the ground, lucky for a good fridge and some cold beer to calm the nerves once back at camp.
We fired up the BBQ’s at around 5:30pm and everyone began gathering around the common area eagerly awaiting a good feed after a
big day on the tracks.
With the meat supplied by Westside 4×4 (Thanks to Andrews Meats) and the contribution of nibbles, salads and deserts by everyone the
3 course “Campsite” buffet was well underway.
After a big day in the sun and a big dinner everyone headed for their tents relatively early.
Sunday Morning we again fired up the BBQ’s and everyone interested gathered in the common area for bacon and eggs.
While most took off again for a drive through the park a few of us simply felt the need for some R & R around the campsite and began the tedious task of packing up.
An awesome turn out with 42 vehicles and nearly 100 people made for a great weekend.
We would like to express a very special THANK YOU to:
Everyone for their contribution to Saturdays BBQ
Steve L for arranging the lovely fresh bread and
bread rolls fresh from the oven at the bakery,
Owen and Jan for providing us with a great venue
and finally to everyone for their support during 2009.
All the staff at Westside 4×4 Accessories wish you all a very
Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year,
We look forward to seeing you all again in 2010.
